Devotion and Direction

22 01 2010

Ps. 119:56-59 “This is my happy way of life: obeying your commandments. LORD, you are mine! I promise to obey your words! With all my heart I want your blessings. Be merciful just as you promised. I pondered the direction of my life, and I turned to follow your statutes.” (NLT)

To be transparent my devotional life months ago absolutely stunk! To the point that it was almost non-existent. Now I’m not saying I didn’t read my Bible, but it is quite possible to read your Bible and not have a devotional life. BTW reading your Bible isn’t the goal. God doesn’t give you a GOLD STAR for everyday you read and give you some sort of blessing at the end of the quarter.

The blessing comes by focusing on God’s word and allowing it to transform you. Read what the psalmist writes. “I promise to obey your words! With all my heart I want your blessings.” He is saying in order get God’s blessings we must obey His word; which requires the process of transformation. He admits this by saying, “I pondered the direction of my life, and I turned to follow your statutes.” There is a evolution of action as God’s word is a applied to our lives.

Don’t just read your Bible to get a gold star with God because it won’t come. Read your Bible to alter your direction towards God. That is true devotion.

How is your devotional life?
